Ismaning, December 22, 2022 – The European Commission has included the EUDI Wallet Consortium (EWC) in its tender to develop the European "ID Wallet" ("EUDI Wallet" - wallet for the European digital identity). EWC is a European consortium under the direction of Sweden, Finland and the IT and the consulting company msg, and includes more than 50 member states and organizations. It aims to implement a holistic and user-friendly European digital identity for citizens, businesses and public authorities in the EU and EFTA (European Free Trade Association).
Secure and recognized digital identity throughout Europe
The EUDI Wallet is part of the European Commission's proposed eIDAS 2.0 regulation. The plan is to give all European citizens and businesses access to a trusted digital identity. The EUDI Wallet will contain information such as a mobile driver's license and will be used for payments, electronic signatures and other trust services in the EU and EFTA. The European Commission has launched a program of major projects to develop the digital wallet. These projects are run by international consortiums. In the two-year pilot phase, “Large Scale Pilots” are to deliver concrete use cases.
EWC is one of four consortiums that have been awarded the contract for this program. msg is supporting Sweden and Finland as co-lead. The EWC's pilot project focuses on the use of the EUDI Wallet in the context of travel, payments and organizational identities. In this context, the consortium will test use scenarios along entire travel processes throughout Europe – from the booking of flights and hotels to check-ins, shopping and payment. Pilot scenarios will be evaluated and tested by a large number of end users across Europe to optimize the user experience. “We are very pleased be part of a project with such outstanding importance, to which we can contribute our many years of experience with trusted, decentralized digital identities,” explains Steffen Schwalm, Principal Consultant at msg. “Ultimately, this is a globally visible solution, the sustainable success of which we ensure through the interaction with international stakeholders.”
