A look back at inscom 2023 – the msg customer event for the insurance industry

On September 18 and 19, 2023, the 12th insurance conference munich (inscom) took place - THE insurance event to which msg invites the top decision-makers from the industry every two years.

Jürgen Zehetmaier, together with Andrea van Aubel, opened the two-day event at the Hilton Hotel in Munich. The event not only offered interesting insights into the latest developments in the industry, but also facilitated valuable discussions and networking opportunities for the 250 participants.

1125 msg inscom 2023

Jürgen warmly welcomed the inscom participants and kicked off the event by addressing the political and economic challenges currently affecting the insurance world. At the same time, however, he also underscored the many opportunities offered by new technologies such as cloud and artificial intelligence.

Cloud, AI and sustainability - these were also the focus topics of inscom 2023.

In her keynote address, Andrea van Aubel recalled her last visit to inscom 7 years ago – back then as speaker and member of the AXA executive board. In 2016, the insurance customer was the focus of her address. And also at this year's inscom she put the customer in the center: “We all do not pursue an end in itself. We all want our customers to be satisfied with our products and services.” She expressed a clear opinion on artificial intelligence to the insurance experts: “The question is not whether AI is being used. The question is: how and where AI is being used in insurance.”

Top-class speakers provided important insights into the future of the insurance industry

A highlight of the inscom were the top-class speakers who shared their expertise and experience. In more than 30 presentations, the focus topics of cloud, AI and sustainability were explored in greater depth and valuable insights into future trends and developments were provided.

For example, HDI Deutschland CEO Jens Warkentin offered insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the insurance industry today in his keynote address, “Insurers caught between technology leaps, regulation and daily business.” He provided valuable insights into how insurers can successfully navigate an ever-changing landscape. Furthermore, HUK-COBURG CEO Klaus-Jürgen Heitmann made it clear in his keynote address “In the end, simply being an insurer will not be enough” that insurers are currently facing a transformational challenge that goes far beyond the traditional insurance business.

The internationally renowned cloud strategist Gregor Hohpe devoted his keynote address to the topic of “Economies of Speed”. He spoke about the importance of speed and agility and showed that the pace is not slowing down.

Entertainment, emotions and a crowning conclusion to the two days

Day two started with a very special musical interlude: Hans Ranft – former partner manager at msg and CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) – interrupted his well-deserved retirement to perform a rendition of “Let me entertain you” on the piano. This musical highlight was and is an integral part of inscom events. It's great we didn't have to go without it in 2023 either.

To close the two days, extreme swimmer, UN Ocean Ambassador and former msg employee André Wiersig took the stage. He talked about his personal experiences as a channel swimmer that have taken him to his limits and beyond. For all his fascination with the natural world, what has constantly accompanied and shocked him is the devastating pollution of the world's oceans. Through André, the participants got a completely different perspective on the topic of sustainability - far away from data collection, ESG reporting and software solutions. A conclusion that was very thought-provoking.
